Coming in August 2012, NewportRIphotos.com will be offering hands-on landscape photography workshops. Consisting of a two day course that includes eight hours of on-location photography shoots and four hours of Photoshop instruction, this is a unique opportunity to develop your skills with two experienced landscape photographers.
Workshop Instruction. The 2012 Landscapes Photography Workshop will be led by NewportRIphotos.com owner Chris Hunter. Chris has an impressive body of work and experience with shooting hundreds of hours of dramatic, low light landscape photography. With in-depth knowledge of the local area, Chris will lead the group with detailed on-location instruction regarding: manual camera settings, tripod use, composition, correct exposure values, use of ISO settings, long exposure techniques and more. Participants will leave the workshops with a deeper understanding of their cameras and photographic techniques related to capturing stunning landscape images.
Photoshop Instruction. The 2012 Landscapes Photography Workshop will also feature an in-depth four hour computer course that covers the basics of editing and working on your images in a digital workflow. Topics covered will be: creating realistic HDR images, basic tonal adjustments including levels, hue / saturation, sharpening, straightening the horizon, color temperature / balance, adjustment layers, masking, adding watermarks to your images and saving your images for print & web.
Requirements & Number of Participants.
The workshop will be limited to 10 participants, to make sure that there is ample time for one on one instruction while shooting. Participants will be required to have the following equipment:
– Digital SLR body (any brand – must be a digital SLR with full manual exposure control)
– At least one lens (preferably wide-angle – 24mm or wider)
– A tripod (any quality tripod will do)
– SD or Compact Flash card
Additionally, participants will be able to utilize lenses including the Sigma 10-20mm lens, the Canon 50mm f1.8, the Canon 16-35mmL lens, the Canon 17-40mmL lens, the Sigma 28-90mm and a variety of filters including polarizers, graduated Neutral Density as well as other equipment that will help to capture great landscape images.
Dates & Registration Fee.
The first Landscapes Photography Workshop will take place August 11th and 12th, with the Photoshop instruction taking place after the second day of shooting. The registration fee is $129 per person, and all participants will receive detailed personalized instruction both in the field and on using Adobe Photoshop.
Day One agenda. The workshop participants will meet at the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Preserve at 5:30am on August 11th. Basic instructions and camera overview will begin in the Sachuest Point parking lot to make sure everyone is prepared and has the necessary equipment. From there, we will begin the workshop on the rocky shoreline of Sachuest Point, photographing the sunrise and early morning hours. Shooting will go until approx. 10am. Instruction on low light photography, capturing the necessary images to make an HDR exposure and working with your tripod will all be covered.
Day Two agenda. The Day Two Workshop will be a full eight hour day, with participants meeting at 9am at the Melville Pond campground area. Here we will discuss daylight shooting, macro photography, capturing moving water with the numerous waterfalls, the use of polarizing filters to reduce glare on water, telephoto photography and nature / wildlife photography. After a full four hours of shooting at Melville Pond, we will continue onto the four hour Photoshop instruction and Q&A session. Topics covered will include: mastering the digital workflow, image adjusting, creating HDR images, cropping & composition, straightening the horizon in images, color temperature / balance, adjustment layers, masking, adding watermarks to your images and saving your images for print & web. There will be three laptops available for participants to work on, and individuals are encouraged to bring their own laptops with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements already installed as well.
